Are you someone who doesn’t fully know what his path is in life, but you know - if you take the time to stand still - who you truly are inside? Knowing oneself is great, but being able to shape life around you is even better. What if you could design not one bright future, but multiple ones?

The world is changing so fast, it’s hard to keep up. How do we, as normal people, define and design a life that works for us in a world that is constantly evolving. Maybe you’re stuck in a life that changed and isn’t really suited for you anymore but you’re unsure of how to get out. Or, your life’s priorities shifted and you have to make some radical changes but weren’t sure on how. Or, you’re simply looking to optimize your life and find more balance…

Sooner or later, if you don’t adapt to life, life will adapt around you, leaving you behind. Similar to Darwin’s finches, you either adapt or die (so to speak). When Darwin wrote about survival of the fittest, he was talking about those most likely to adapt to changing circumstances.

How do you make sure you stay on top of life? The first step is realizing that there can be multiple true paths for you. The second step is measuring your life and making small changes to steadily build towards a better future. Odds are, you already have all the tools you need to get the job done, you just don’t know how to use them.

I often hear people say “I’m not creative” when they’re confronted with the idea of designing multiple futures. They think that because they did not like to paint when they were younger they are not creative. But an inspiring design for life - and coming up with creative ideas - isn't exclusively available to the creatives, it can be done by anyone who is willing to look at the bigger picture.

Life design can, and should, be approached with a more practical and scientific base than mere ‘creative brainstorming’. Once we understand and view life design as something that comes from serving basic human needs in a better way, we can start to play. But what does ‘serving basic human needs in a better way’ mean? It means we take the time to analyze what you’re doing now that needs improving and work on solutions to problems.

As a lecturer on life design at the Applied University of Rotterdam I teach one of the most popular electives called Designing Your Life. Whether you’re a college student about to graduate, or a senior marketer looking for a change, you will get practical tools that will help you identify those parts of your life that need to be looked at. By the end of the day you will be shook loose and be ready to tap straight into the flow of the future.

In a playful and accessible way I engage with the audience to help them make the shift in their mind and give them the tools they need to innovate.

More than just a lecture on life design: When I speak on life design, it’s not just about the theory and the tools. It is also about having the right atmosphere for learning. I will make sure there is a relaxed and fun atmosphere before we dive into the knowledge of innovation.

Opening the mind to life design: Life design starts with realizing that being creative only plays a small part. It starts with understanding how human needs need to be met in new ways, it starts by seeing how we can influence our futures on a daily basis, it starts by looking at the bigger picture before diving into design headfirst.

Inspiration and interaction: If you are looking for a speaker that will dryly run down his slides and only communicate the science, keep looking. I like to engage with the audience and motivate them to immediately apply the knowledge they just learned so they can get ahead and be inspired to get to work (and innovate their lives).

I speak both incompany as well as on events. Keep in mind that I can present both as a keynote or as a workshop (both in half-day and full-day seminar versions). All talks can be done in English or Dutch.
